Sports & Entertainment Disputes Commercial Arbitration Athlete Representation

Brawly Caldwell is an Associate in the Litigation group. His practice focuses on sports and entertainment disputes, commercial arbitration, and athlete representation matters. He handles endorsement and NIL contract disputes, agent-athlete commission disputes in arbitration, and the kind of commercial disagreements that tend to arise between small and mid-sized sports businesses and their production vendors. Caldwell earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 2020 and his B.A. from UC San Diego in 2016. Between college and law school he worked for two years at a California-based sports agency, where he ran contract administration for a roster of professional surfers and action-sports athletes. He joined Oak, Elm & Birch in 2021 after relocating to Hartford. His sports-industry background is the reason the Litigation group has gained a small but steady volume of athlete and agency referrals over the last three years. ## Representative Matters - Represented an independent sports agent in a JAMS arbitration against a former client concerning commission obligations on post-termination endorsement income, 2023. - Counsel to a regional event-production company in a commercial dispute with a national broadcast partner, resolved through mediation, 2024. - Represented a college athlete in the negotiation and defense of an NIL collective agreement, including coordination with outside tax counsel on pass-through structuring, 2024. ## Pro Bono Caldwell handles commercial-dispute referrals from Hartford Legal Aid Society, typically involving small-business clients in consumer-facing disputes. Admitted: Connecticut, New York, California.
